It’s everywhere – you can’t avoid it
Wherever you are in the world today, you are more than likely to come into contact with a product created by plastic injection moulding. The bottle top, thousands of us removed to pour milk over cereals this morning; syringes, remote control casings or larger items like car body panels are just a few more examples of the versatility of this process.
Plastic injection moulding was patented 150 years ago, but when steel production was overtaken by plastic production in the 1970s, injection moulding machines became commonplace, and in the 1990s lightweight aluminium moulds were introduced, making the technique quicker and more cost-effective.
It is known as the most efficient form of moulding, offering a low cost per part in a large range of plastics made with precision and high repeatability. Compared to other methods, injection moulding is extremely fast, offering uniformity and the option to make millions of virtually identical parts.

Is plastic injection moulding suitable for us?
Without close examination, it would be easy to argue that this process is fine if you want a million bottle tops, but will high initial costs and prohibitive lead times make it unprofitable for smaller runs?

A large number of companies in this sector are only geared for high volume production, so a low to medium injection volume specialist is needed if smaller quantities are to be produced cost efficiently. Precision Moulded Products (PMP) has 24 plastic injection moulding machines, four of which use the Manumold process. Due to the quick set-up time for these machines, as few as 50 parts can be manufactured. Customers benefit from low tooling cost and types of materials or colours can be changed quickly. A wide range of moulding variations are available, custom parts such as mould holes and logos can also be included.

“Low-volume plastic injection moulding is as important to us as our higher volume work. We give every project the same high level of care and attention regardless of quantity.”
Wayne Baldwin – Chairman – Precision Moulded Products (Essex) Ltd
Industrial, engineering, electrical, electronic, life safety, medical and commercial are just a few of the sectors that have benefited from PMP’s technical experience in the UK and around the world over the last 45-years. We have the technical expertise required to meet the most exacting plastic injection moulding standards. With staff on hand to advise and help, from concept to final finished volume production, PMP’s knowhow and experience ensures the project is delivered on budget and on time.
Why PMP?
PMP is renowned for producing injection moulded plastic components of the highest quality and precision at highly competitive prices. Our trusted project delivery method may combine prototyping, free tool design review, component design support, tool design and low-cost tooling manufacture.

Our engineers have over 100 years’ collective experience in product and mould-tool design. They work with the customer creating several prototype iterations if needed to make the most of initial ideas and concepts. Quickly made plastic prototypes are evaluated for manufacture and analysed to ensure they are fit for purpose. Support with printed, moulded and machined prototypes can include moulded parts using low-cost prototype tooling or aluminium moulds, machined parts and 3D printing / stereolithography (SLA). PMP’s prototyping service is delivered in line with ISO 9001 quality standards, and as a quality assured company, PMP can also meet specific quality assurance requirements. PMP is both ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 certified.
“We have been a PMP customer for many years. We have always been extremely pleased with their fast and efficient service. They provide great customer support with a professional and friendly service which we know we can rely on every time.”
